"It is both a constant challenge and continuing inspiration to successfully create on canvas a portion of God's masterpiece." "Give unto God the glory due to His Name..."

Essentially self-educated, I am a representational artist with an impressionistic touch.  I work primarily in oil on canvas, with a limited palette, and a preference toward rich color and warm light.

Since 1993, I have actively pursued a career as an artist.  My paintings have been accepted in dozens of juried national and international shows across the country and from 1999 to present I have had representation in four fine art galleries in New Jersey.

My plein air painting began after watching the WorldScape series on PBS in 1993, which featured world-renowned marine artist, John Stobart.  I was so excited about the series that I decided to write him a letter.  John's strongest advice to me was to paint on location.  If you look at John's paintings, you will understand why I was so easily persuaded.

Whenever possible I do a plein air  painting which is quickly rendered and completed in one session.  Some of my plein air paintings are for sale but the majority are used for reference for my studio paintings.

My recent studio works are painted wet into wet, completing small sections of the painting each day and some of my paintings are completed in one session as I would a plein air painting.  I use swirling, short/long and choppy daubs of paint.  And there are occasions when I find it necessary to pick up a palette knife, load it with three or four colors, and brush it across the canvas with one courageous stroke.  I also use photos but include plein air studies for color or value.  My reference material always comes  in handy - anatomical models; handmade paper buildings; or wagons/carts, animals and figures, etc., from my HO scale and doll collections.

Since I started painting from life, I noticed a transformation in my Studio work, as those paintings now appear fresh and alive.
